Elephant Mountain (Xiangshan Hiking Trail) Taipei

We got to Elephant Mountain the easiest way.  We took the LRT Red Line last station Xiangshan, one station away from Taipei 101.  From here it was a nice walk at the park and we just followed the signages that lead to the Xiangshan hiking trail.  From LRT, it was a fun and enjoyable stroll going to the foot of the trail.

my 5 kids are excited to get to the top

The hike to the Elephant mountain will take you about 15 to 30 minutes to the top, depending on how many stops you will make.  It was a cold December but we really sweat a lot during the short hike.

rest, and more rest...

It is more or less 1.9 kilometers from the Xiangshan LRT station up to the top of the mountain.  It is located 166 MASL.  The trail has 500 steps up to the rock viewpoints.

This area is the most queued area at the elephant mountain.  It took us 20 minutes to wait until our turn. But the long wait is truly rewarding though a little foggy during our visit.

Best time to get here is during sunrise and sunset.  Expect to encounter a lot of tourists during sunset as the place gets really crowded during this time.  If you can wait a little more, stay until dusk so you can see Taipei 101 and its structures nearby lit at night.  This is the perfect place to view Taipei.

Entrance fee is free.
