Mount Batulao, Nasugbu, Batangas (811 MASL), Day Hike

It is already our second time to climb Mount Batulao.  The first one was a night trek and it was more relaxing, colder and a little shady than this climb.  We agreed to wake up so early at around 4am and leave Amadeo, Cavite at around 5am because the trail is exposed to sun.  We failed and we started trekking at the jump-off at 8am.

Jump-off point : Evercrest Golf Course, Nasugbu, Batangas
LLA : 14.0408 N 120.8011 E 811 MASL
Days required/Hours to summit : 1 day/2-4 hours
Specs : Minor climb
Difficulty : 3/9 - New Trail, 4/9 - Old Trail
Trail class 3 with 60-70 degrees assault

Mount Batulao is popularly known for day-hikers.  The summit can be trekked for only 2 to 3 hours.

There is a comfort room at Camp 1 and you just need to pay a little amount for the water that you will be using to flush something, hehe =) The caretaker of the camp is also selling drinking water at Php15 per 1.5 liters.

Mount Pico de Loro, Maragondon, Cavite (664 MASL), Day Hike

We first climb Mount Pico de Loro in August of last year when it was raining so hard.  We had a long, wet and difficult climb. We arrived at the summit from the jump-off in 4 1/2 hours. We were not able to summit peak 2 (or the monolith while others call it as "toreng bato") as it will be very dangerous to reach it because of the gusty wind and the slippery trail.

As a fulfillment to a promise, I really made sure that I will return to Mount Pico de Loro in the summer of 2014.

Here are the specifications again of Mount Pico de Loro :
Major jump-off : Magnetic Hill, Ternate, Cavite
LLA : 14°12.855N: 120°38.785E: 664 MASL
Days required/Hours to summit : 1-2days/2-5 hours
Specs: Minor climb  Difficulty : 3/9   Trail class : 1-3
source:

How to get to Mount Palay Palay National Park (jump-off) from Manila :

The main bus terminal going to Cavite and Batangas is in Coastal Mall, Parañaque.  Take Ternate bound buses, fare Php82.  From Ternate bus terminal flag a trike going to DENR, fare Php100/person but can be negotiated up to Php75/person.

It will only take you half an hour to hike from jump-off to camp 1.  When it was raining, we hiked it for an hour.

There is an orientation at Camp 1.  Please practice the "Leave No Trace" policy.  If only mountaineers can be scanned, and those who are so pasaway like the ones who love writing their names on rocks and leaving there trashes uphill will not be allowed to hike.

the rooty parts of the trail

From Camp 1 to Campsite is two hiking hours.

We  just took our lunch and had some coffee at the campsite (oo! kahit mainit ang panahon! addict ako sa kape, hahaha =)  and then headed to the summit (peak 1) for ten to fifteen minutes.  We were eating plenty of soil dusts but it's really okay, I was so excited to see the view from the summit!

And we made it!

those little people in peak 2

picture taking with Migz before trekking my dream peak!

How to get best photos in peak 2?  Make an extreme sacrifice to leave one friend to peak 1 and then the ones who went ahead can return to peak 1 to replace the first photographer.  And that's what we did, anyway it will only take you 10 to 15 minutes to reach peak 2 from peak 1.  It just looks too difficult but we didn't have a hard time getting there.  Just be careful all the time because one wrong move will cause your life.

okay let's do this!!!

My journey to peak 2 has begun...

thank you Migz for being with us the second time, see you again sa next climb...

the magnificent view of the two peaks

There are two waterfalls leading to Pico de Loro but only best visited during wet seasons.  We were able to spend some time here when we hiked here the first time.  The first one is only a few minutes away from Camp 1 while the second waterfalls is near the Maragondon trail.  Take a sneak peek of the waterfalls and our rainy hike here.
