Bantayan Island, Cebu - Beach Placid Resort

Bantayan Island is an island located in the Visayan Sea, Philippines.  It is situated to the west of the northern end of Cebu Island, across the Tañon Strait.

The island is administratively divided into three municipalities:
  • Bantayan (the largest municipality, covering the central part)
  • Madridejos (covering the eastern portion)
  • Santa Fe (covering the eastern portion)
Bantayan is the main and largest island of the Bantayan island group that lies close to the geographical centre. The island group includes numerous smaller islands (some uninhabitable), mostly around the southwest corner of the island. About 20 of these islets stretch for about 8 kilometers (5 miles) southwest from Bantayan municipality port area, with some nearer ones being accessible on foot from the main island at low tide. The islands are beside the busy shipping lanes for ships and ferries coming from Mindanao or Cebu City on their way to Manila. The islands are all small and green and low, virtually indistinguishable one from another.

Bantayan was badly hit by typhoon Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) in November 2013. The houses and structures were all shattered.  The strongest typhoon to ever hit landfall also displaced more than 150,000 people on Bantayan Island alone and NGO's from around the world began to arrive within a few days after November 8, 2013.

Though the island has been battered and tortured by Yolanda, the beach and the sea regains its natural beauty and charm.  The locals were also able to arise themselves up and start all over again.

How to get to Bantayan Island?
From Cebu City go to North Bus Terminal near SM Cebu. Take buses with Hagnaya sign boards.  Travel time takes 3 1/2 to 4 hours.  Bus fare is Php160 as of November 2014.

Upon reaching Hagnaya port, it will be another hour travel time going to Sta. Fe.  Ferry fare is Php170.  Terminal fee is Php10.

Welcome to Santa Fe!

Everybody's busy watching the Pacquiao-Algeri fight so the one's supposed to fetch us is nowhere to be found, hehe =)

From the port, we just asked the locals how to get to Beach Placid and they said that if we walk along the beach area, it will be just a short 5 to 10 minutes walk.

Opened in early 2009, Beach Placids’ property boasts the best & longest stretch of Beach on Alice Beach.

Beach Placid has an open air restaurant and newly built bar featuring Free Videoke with the purchase of soda, shakes or alcoholic beverages.

They offer Free Transfers to & from Santa Fe Pier in a Hyundai Aircon Starex.

They also offer free WiFi wireless internet access for our guests with laptops, notebook computers & WiFi enabled cell phones.

We were accommodated at Beach Placid in Sta. Fe. I reserved for a room with 2 queen beds because it will already be enough for us.  Sometimes looking for a family room will cost too much for us.  We got an A/C room for Php2,000. Their cheapest AC room costs Php1,500 good for two (2) persons.

I would like to commend Beach Placid for the wonderful staffs who took care of us.  They are very respectful, accommodating and very hospitable.  I asked them to open their wifi though I did not order any food in their restaurant (I even asked hot water for my coffee, hehe) and I was the only one there and stayed close to midnight.  Thank You!

We were offered with island hopping for Php800 for the two islands namely Hilantagaan Island, where it is also being habitated by Bantayan locals, and the Silion Island.  There is an entrance fee of Php500/person at Silion ISland.  The cottage is not yet included in the entrance fee. Bantayan Island looks wonderful and tourists would definitely be visiting this place once they read your post. I've never been into this place but I have visited Cebu last year and went to Oslob. I rented a motorbike at book2wheel.com, and it made travel easier and fun. This coming May I'll return in Cebu and for sure I'll come to visit Bantayan by renting out at book2wheel.com .
