Puerto Prinsesa City, Palawan
Puerto Prinsesa is the capital of the island of Palawan. I am so proud of this city because this is where I spent some of my childhood days. I even studied for a year at Holy Trinity College in Puerto Prinsesa. The city has been known and acclaimed as the cleanest and greenest city in the Philippines. The city has also been internationally recognized for environmental excellence.
This is the second out-of-town of barkada after the Bohol-Cebu trip. So sorry this vacation happened long time ago. I just need to document this for my kids. Anyway you may continue reading and you may pick some infos and tips when you travel to Puerto Prinsesa.

| Let's explore Puerto Prinsesa |
Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Zestair all have daily flights to Puerto Prinsesa. The modes of transportation within the city are tricycles offering minimum fare when you get them at the National Road. You may be charged overpriced when you flagged them at the airport.

First Day : City Tour. Butterfly Garden, Crocodile Farm, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, Mitra's Farm.

Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm
is essentially a village in complete contrast of a penal establishment
one would have in mind. There are about a two thousand prisoners there
and in the center of all their work is the central village square. One might be surprised that the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm has no walls and almost no barriers. The only precaution
that this establishment makes in terms of security is a head count 3
times a day when the prisoners are mandated to gather in the central
village square. However, despite being a low security prison, no
prisoners attempt to escape for a variety of reasons: first, prisoners
are provided with vocational activities of their choice, transportation
arrangements are almost impossible for a prisoner and if a prisoner
chooses to escape through the mountains, they would face a certain death. In addition, the prisoners at Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm are allowed to live with their families during the time that they are serving their sentence.

Second Day : a trip to Underground River...

The Puerto Prinsesa Subterranean River National Park is a protected area of the Philippines located about 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of the city center of Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan. The river is also called Puerto Prinsesa Underground River. The national park is located in the Saint Paul Mountain Range on the western coast of the island. It is bordered by St. Paul Bay to the north and the Babuyan River to the east. The City Government of Puerto Prinsesa has managed the National Park since 1992. The entrance to the subterranean river is a short hike or boat ride from the town Sabang.
In 2010, a group of environmentalists and geologists discovered that the underground river has a second floor, which means that there are small waterfalls inside the cave. They also found a cave dome measuring 300 m (980 ft) above the underground river, rock formations, large bats, a deep water hole in the river, more river channels, another deep cave, as well as marine creatures and more. Deeper areas of the underground river are almost impossible to explore due to oxygen deprivation.
On November 11, 2011, Puerto Prinsesa Underground River was provisionally chosen as one of the New7Wonders of Nature. This selection was offcially confirmed on January 28, 2012.

Note. A permit is now necessary to visit the underground river and only
available in Puerto Princesa, though an online system is in
construction. Beware that like any other hardworking government office
they finish their day at 4pm, so a permit for next day needs to be
arranged before that. Travel agents normally can arrange it for you.

Third day : Island Hopping in Honda Bay
Honda Bay is
comprised of several islets with shallow reefs bordering wonderful
beaches which have become the much loved swimming, snorkeling, and
diving destinations of local residents and tourists. The best recognized islands
of Honda Bay are Cowrie and Bat named because of the large fruit bats
coming out of their holes at sundown for their evening feed. Another is
Snake island, of curvaceous tongue shape like a snake and with a white
sand beach noted for large and lovely shells. Other interesting islands are Canon, Pandan, Starfish, Lu-Li Island (derived from the word
""lulubog-lilitaw"", meaning floating and sinking island, is visible
only during low tide), Señorita Island (the breeding site of lapu-lapu
fish). and Meara Marina. Starfish Island, with coral reefs breaking
crystal clear water onto empty, fine white sand beaches and clear water
that teems with starfish. Arreceffi Island contains the luxury Dos
Palmas Beach Resort, while lesser accommodation can be found on other islands, or stay at Puerto Princesa Beach resort and take a half hour boat trip to your much loved deserted beach. Lodging facilities are available for overnight stays in the islands of Meara Marina and Starfish (Sandbar Resort).
